Philosophical-theological College Brixen

The Philosophical-Theological College of Brixen/Bressanone is an academic formation and training institution, a place for philosophical and theological teaching and research. It offers the degree programmes of Catholic Theology, Catholic Religious Education, and Philosophy. While its principal focus is on academic theology, it also provides formational preparation and practical training.

These includes the Brixen Theological Courses, the Continuing Education Course "Applied Ethics"  and various other projects and initiatives.

The College is run by the Diocese of Bozen-Brixen/Bolzano-Bressanone.

Why study Theology?

The Study of Theology qualifies students for ecclesiastical professions and for the teaching of religious education. They are further a basic qualification for various other professions.
The Study of Theology is also aimed at personality formation. It includes a basic humanistic education, imparts a theological-scientific awareness of problems and sharpens the view of the world and the society in which we live.

Bachelor in Philosophy

The Bachelor’s degree programme in Philosophy will start again on 1 October 2026. The PTH Brixen organises this long-established and popular programme as part of a partnership agreement with the University of Innsbruck.

The College offers various projects for teenagers, with the aim of informing students about the possibilities of different church professions. They can also get a "taste" of theology and philosophy studies.

Podcast "This Side of Eden"

Theology is talk of God in this time and in this world. But which God are we actually talking about? And what do we mean when we speak of "the world"? 

In order to be contemporary and critical at the same time, theology must therefore be willing to learn and engage with social debates and issues.

The theological faculties of Austria & South Tyrol are taking up this challenge with the Podcast "This Side of Eden".
